The Ghost Rider Omnibus Wishlist

When it comes to the Omnibus format of collected editions, Ghost Rider hasn't seen a whole lot of love over the years.  To date there have only been five Omnibus editions for the character, with one of which being long out of print:

However!  In October Marvel will be releasing not one but TWO Ghost Rider Omnibus volumes to the delight of those of us willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money on books that weigh a metric ton. I personally love the Omnibus format and it's my preferred way of collecting these days, they just look so damn nice on my bookshelf. Here's the details on what's coming in the Fall:

GHOST RIDER BY BENJAMIN PERCY OMNIBUS

Collecting: GHOST RIDER (2022) # 1-3, # 14 (A story), # 15-19, # 20 (A story), # 21; GHOST RIDER/WOLVERINE: WEAPONS OF VENGEANCE ALPHA (2023) # 1, WOLVERINE (2020) # 36, GHOST RIDER/WOLVERINE: WEAPONS OF VENGEANCE OMEGA (2023) # 1; GHOST RIDER: FINAL VENGEANCE (2024) # 1-6; GHOST RIDER: VENGEANCE FOREVER (2022) # 1; and GHOST RIDER ANNUAL (2023) # 1

GHOST RIDER: DANNY KETCH OMNIBUS VOL. 3

Collects GHOST RIDER (1990) 41-50, ANNUAL #1, GHOST RIDER/BLAZE: SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE 14-23, NIGHTSTALKERS 14-15, MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS 143-146, DARKHOLD: PAGES FROM THE BOOK OF SINS 15-16, MORBIUS: THE LIVING VAMPIRE 16-17, DOCTOR STRANGE, SORCERER SUPREME 60-61,  MIDNIGHT SONS UNLIMITED #4, BLAZE LEGACY OF BLOOD 1-4, GHOST RIDER AND THE MIDNIGHT SONS MAGAZINE (1993) #1 and material from MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS 131-142

I love that they're continuing on with the 1990s stuff, even if the material in that third volume is the weakest from the era quality-wise.  I'm also stoked about the Percy run being collected; I had my issues with some of it, but overall I think it's a pretty solid run of comics.  I'll absolutely be picking up those two collections when they're released, because the more that are sold the greater the chances for more Ghost Rider material being collected in the format.

What other material, you may ask?  Why, I have just the answer for that!  I've created a handy map for future Omnibus collections, some highly likely to be released in the future and others, well, it's called a "wish list" for a reason. The most glaring omission from the line right now are collections of the original Johnny Blaze era from the 1970s, which I can only assume must be in the works for the next year or two.  The Epic Collections of the same comics are about to finish up, so I guess they were worried about double dipping on releases back to back.  Here is how those collections will likely map out in Omnibus format:

GHOST RIDER: JOHNNY BLAZE OMNIBUS VOL 1

Collecting MARVEL SPOTLIGHT (1971) #5-12, GHOST RIDER (1973) #1-20, MARVEL TEAM-UP (1972) #15 and 58, MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE (1974) # 18, DAREDEVIL (1964) # 138, MARVEL PREMIERE # 28, and material from MARVEL TALES (1966) # 255

GHOST RIDER: JOHNNY BLAZE OMNIBUS VOL. 2

Collecting GHOST RIDER (1973) #21-52, MARVEL TEAM-UP (1972) #91 and material from WHAT IF? (1977) #17, WHAT IF? (1977) # 28, and MARVEL TALES (1966) #256

GHOST RIDER: JOHNNY BLAZE OMNIBUS VOL 3

Collecting GHOST RIDER (1973) # 53-81, MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE (1974) # 80, AVENGERS (1963) # 214, TEAM AMERICA (1982) # 11, THE NEW DEFENDERS (1972) # 145-146, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1963) # 274, and material from MARVEL SUPER-HEROES (1989) # 11

Okay, so what about the rest of the 1990s era?  I think the biggest question is if they'll collect the 1994 BLAZE series by Larry Hama in with it, and I honestly think they probably should. It would allow them to split the remaining material into two volumes and those comics absolutely need to be collected somewhere instead of being left as dusty curios of the era.

GHOST RIDER: DANNY KETCH VOL. 4

Collecting GHOST RIDER (1990) # 51-69 and ANNUAL # 2, BLAZE (1994) # 1-12, GHOST RIDER/WOLVERINE/PUNISHER: THE DARK DESIGN, DOUBLE EDGE OMEGA, and OVER THE EDGE (1995) # 4

GHOST RIDER: DANNY KETCH VOL. 5

Collecting GHOST RIDER (1990) # 70-94 and # -1, GHOST RIDERS: CROSSROADS # 1, MARVEL FANFARE (1997) # 3, OVER THE EDGE (1995) # 9, VENOM: SIGN OF THE BOSS # 1-2, and PETER PARKER: SPIDER-MAN (1990) # 93

Now, what about more modern stuff, from 2001 and onwards?  That would be a trickier bit to map out, since they've already released the Jason Aaron run in Omnibus format and seem to want to stick to creator runs verses continuity packs.  Let's see what we can come up with, though.

GHOST RIDER BY GARTH ENNIS AND DANIEL WAY OMNIBUS
Collecting GHOST RIDER (2005) # 1-6, GHOST RIDER (2006) # 1-19 and ANNUAL # 1-2, GHOST RIDER: TRAIL OF TEARS # 1-6, and GHOST RIDER: DANNY KETCH # 1-5

GHOST RIDER BY ROB WILLIAMS OMNIBUS
Collecting GHOST RIDER (2011) # 0.1 and 1-9, SHADOWLAND (2010) # 1-5, SHADOWLAND: GHOST RIDER # 1, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN/GHOST RIDER: MOTORSTORM # 1, VENOM (2011) # 13, 13.1-13.4, and 14, HEROES FOR HIRE (2010) # 2, and X-MEN (2010) # 15.1

What does that leave?  A Robbie Reyes collecting?  A "King of Hell Saga" hardcover?  Hell yeah, let's go.

GHOST RIDER: ROBBIE REYES OMNIBUS

Collecting ALL-NEW GHOST RIDER (2014) # 1-12, GHOST RIDER (2016) # 1-5, GHOST RACERS (2015) # 1-4, GHOST RIDER: ROBBIE REYES SPECIAL (2024) # 1, THE UNBELIEVABLE GWENPOOL # 14-15, and material from SECRET WARS: SECRET LOVE # 1, MARVEL VOICES COMUNIDADES # 1, and MARVEL VOICES: AVENGERS # 1

GHOST RIDER: KING OF HELL OMNIBUS

Collecting GHOST RIDER (2019) # 1-7, SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE (2017) # 1-5, DOCTOR STRANGE: DAMNATION # 1-4, DAMNATION: JOHNNY BLAZE - GHOST RIDER # 1, AVENGERS (2018) # 14-17 and # 22-25, ABSOLUTE CARNAGE: SYMBIOTE OF VENGEANCE # 1, SPIRITS OF GHOST RIDER: MOTHER OF DEMONS # 1, GHOST RIDER 2099 (2019) # 1, GHOST RIDER: RETURN OF VENGEANCE # 1, KING IN BLACK: GHOST RIDER # 1, and material from MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS (2019) # 6 and INCOMING! (2019) # 1

And that would bring us completely up to date, since the Ben Percy run has already been announced.  Yeah, there's the Spirits of Violence stuff and a few odd one-shots that have come out since Percy's run ended, but not enough material for Marvel to really consider collecting as an Omnibus (and most of that stuff wasn't a financial or critical hit, so that's a factor as well). I think those last couple of volumes I mapped out might be a pipe dream, though I wouldn't be surprised if they released something for the Ennis/Way stories in the future.  It's fun to think about, though, and wouldn't all of those be awesome sitting on a shelf?

Oh, and Marvel, if you wouldn't mind putting that COSMIC GHOST RIDER OMNIBUS back into print, I'd really appreciate it. I missed it the first time around!
